These informal sessions are designed to expose ANU students to fundamental study skills that will help them excel in the social sciences. They are designed for students who may be new to university study or who are unsure about course expectations and requirements. They will be facilitated by Dr Clare Southerton from the ANU School of Sociology.

In this second session, we’ll cover how to analyse your essay question to ensure you know how to answer it, how to plan a strong argument and how to structure your paragraphs. We'll also deal with common problems students have with their essays and there will be the opportunity to ask questions as well as raise issues you might be having with essays you're writing at the moment. You are also free to bring plans and drafts of current essays with you - while there may not be time for individual feedback on each you can ask questions about problems you may be having and show the facilitator the specific parts of your essay you are struggling with.
